Post-Tonsillectomy stories

Author: John

I had my tonsils out in 2007 & am glad they've gone I am in my late 20s! I no longer get tonsil stones which is great. The surgeon said it was one of the worst cases he'd ever seen!

Sometimes...I still have a scratchy feeling on 1 side of where my tonsil used to be!?

Would you care to share your post tonsillectomy experiences and if you have any issues with it now?

I had my tonsils out in 1968 and still get tonsil stones. There is a slit where my tonsils used to be and they build up there. Is this common?

My husband and I both get tonsil stones. I have my tonsils and he does not, they were removed when he was a kid. So a tonselectomy isn't really a cure.

I used to get tonsil stones when I was younger. I always thought they were food particles until I stumbled across this page. Anyway, I ended up getting a nasty case of tonsillitis and had my tonsils removed at 23 years old. Recovery was not fun and I chugged Tylenol with codeine like it was my job. Took about a week to feel better, but I no longer get stones. Now I'm healthy as a cow at 28.

I had a tonsillectomy a few months ago, and it was AWESOME!!
I would highly recommend it to anyone suffering and can afford it. I had suffered for atleast 5 years with tonsil stones. I cleaned them out atleast twice a week. I finally decided (after getting engaged to a nurse) to get the operation. It was well worth it. I just found a local ENT doctor and he said it was no big deal to have it done as an adult.
I had it done at an outpatient surgery center. The surgery took about 30 mins and I went home that day. I even got to see them in a jar afterwards! The first few days were fine, no pain at all. I could swallow and drink liquids. There was some pain about day 3-7. I had some good meds and had no problem doing daily activiites. I could have gone to work, but the meds made me sleepy. I was fine and operational ay day 7 and went on vacation. I stopped noticing any swallowing issues from pain about day 8 or 9.
Honestly it was the best decision. No more yucky stones, clean breath! It ended up costing me $1000 after my health insurance paid 70% of it.

I had my tonsils surgically removed about 20 yrs ago. No more stones since. Maybe the operation did not remove all of the tonsil and some grow back to create the pockets that results in stones. I have heard adenoids grow back if not completely removed. Go see a good ENT.

I have suffered from these nasty critters [tonsil stones] for years. I just accepted that I would always have them. However, since using the tonsil stone remedy I learned about on tonsilstones.net, I have not experienced even one tonsil stone.
