Pictures of Tonsil Stones

Tonsil stones can be very annoying. If you have found your way to this site then you may already know what having tonsil stones is like. In either case, it's safe to say you do not want to get them. I have not yet met anyone who was excited about getting tonsil stones. The purpose of this article is to help those of you who are still trying to figure out if that nasty white ball in your throat is in fact a tonsil stone.

In this diagram, you'll notice the locations of the tongue, adenoids, tonsils etc. These items have been labeled for reference. If the white ball you are experiencing is located in the area of the tonsils, then it's most likely a tonsil stone.

These photos give you an idea of what tonsil stones look like after being removed.

I too have suffered from tonsil stones.  It was some time before I located a remedy that worked for me.  You may need to try different things before successfully ridding yourself of these annoying things.  I went for several years before discovering Dr. Katz' Tonsil Stone Remedy.

this may sound digusting but i usually can suck them right out of my tonsils. Im 15 and have had them for 2years and have never talked to a doctor about them but today when i was watching the Dr.'s show i saw something similar and decided to research and am happy to know im not alone. i feel that i constantly have a sore throat and those things are ALWAYS on my tonsils. and good home remedies?

My sister and I both get them and I just found out what they are. I read that a mouth wash called ALKALOL works great or gargaling with warm salt water daily. They smell so bad I'll try anything. Hope this helps and good luck guys.

I TOO ALSO SUFFER FROM TONSIL STONES, I HATE THESE THINGS AND I SVED SOME AND TOOK THEM TO DR, BECAUSE I THOUGHT HEY WERE CANCER CELLS , THEY HAD TURNED TO LIITLE HARD STONES BY THE TIME I TOOK TO DR. VISIT ,SO I SEE WHY THEY ARE CALLED STONES I WONDER IF THEY ARE LIKE THAT IN KIDNEYS WHEN PEOPLE GE KIDNEYS STONES . THEY WILL MAKES YOU FEEL SICK BECAUSE ALL THEY ARE IS BACTERIA. hi i'm 12 and my dad tolled me about them after my first one when i was about 9 and there dreaded the smell is terrible and i want them gone a.s.a.p i am thinking of going to my doctor and telling her about what i read and maybe get my tonsils out or use a mouthwash or something

omg! i hate these things. i always fill like i have to stand 10ft away when i am talking to anyone and when i am kissing my husbad i so fill like he can taste the horrible taste in my mouth. :( i have had them for ab 2 yrs now and the best thing that works for me is a curved syringe from my dentist i fill it with water and listerine and flush my tonsils out. that helps alot with the bad breah. ugh but at the bottom of my tonsils i still see some and i cant get them out its like they are stcuk forever. any suggestions on what to do with the ones that are so deep down??

The cure is simple. You dont need to by expensive products! Cleanse mouth and throat with diluted Hydrogen peroxide! Buy a tongue scraper! Eat plenty yogurt! Your mouth has anaerobic bacteria and oxygen containing products will kill the bacteria.

I had tonsil stones since i could remember, tried all the remedies and they were always temporary. I finally just got my tonsils out and it is WONDERFUL. havn't had one since :)

They are so weird! I just found out on Dr. Oz this is what has been going on with me. I thought it was corn particle that got stuck in my nasal passages from blowing my nose after I eat or something. Ew! I was like EWWWW I HAVENT EATEN CORN IN WEEKS!! It is so gross and smelly

I recently found out I have tonsil stones from this and websites. At first I thought they were just tiny, leftover pieces of food (like a peanut) that got stuck in the back of my mouth but thankfully now I know better. The worse type of stone I get is usually on just one side and I can feel it stuck in my tonsil. What always works for me is using a q-tip and applying a little pressure to the area until it pops or works its way out. Then I gargle with either warm salt water or Listerine. It's so gross and embarrassing to talk about but like so many others, I'm glad I'm not alone with this.

I have had tonsil stones now for 2 years or so, i never knew what it was until today after finally having enough with cleaning my tonsils and putting up with bad breath (not pleasant at all) . I feel overwhelmed and relived knowing im not alone and did not expect to even find a name for this horrible condition. Im off to my doctors tomorrow and hopefully get some help in getting rid if IT for good, but slightly worried that i wont be taken seriously. I personally would rather just have them removed.

my husband mentioned these white things coming up from his throat. & soon after that it started happening to me. then i got a sore throat for about 3 days. i looked in my mouth & saw the white spots on my tonsils. i thought it was tonsilitis. the sore throat went away but not the spot. i took a gum pick that the dentist gave me & got it out. i went to bed & the next morning it came back.omg!! im so scared. i need to stop this. i have no health insurance.please help..anyone?

someone please reply to this. I have had these stones for about 3 years and then the last couple days i have had a cold. I feel as if something is stuck in the back of my throat, but when i poke and prod with a Q-tip, I still feel it. Could this be connected to tonsillitis? any suggestions on what i can do to get rid of it becasue it is making my gag reflex go crazzyy! i even puked! NEED HELP ASAP!

Was researching Tonsils on Wikipedia & came across these Tonsilloliths or tonsil stones. So glad that I am not alone on this. I've had them since I was young & never new what they were. They're yuk! Thanks for everyone's input on how to get rid of them. Time to go gargle!

I'm 14 years old and I get these things like I get my period! MONTHLY! My momma gets them too! I can actually squeeze them out of my tonsils, gagging doesn't bother me, but my momma coughs them up at random! But the things make my breath stink and when they leave my mouth, they reek of something awful! It really sucks

I recently noticed these on my tonsils, they are so nasty! im obsessed with getting them out, i use a mini white plastic spoon and flashlight. i hope they stop coming at some point. they smell worse than poop!!!

I just use my tongue to push against the tonsils. Sometimes it takes some effort, but they eventually come out. I've been getting these all my life, but have never been diagnosed with anything related to my tonsils.

i just noticed what i think are tonsil stone last night as i have a feeling in my throat that i have some sort of object down there and cant swollow it, i always have a large amount of saliva that builds up. I think i swolled one of these stones last month but it was instant relief and now i have another sucker but my gag reflex is too sensitive to get it out. I went to the docs today but he didnt see anything and never heard of tonsil stones before but im determined this is what it is.

I had one in my mouth for over a year and I thpugh it wasa puss pcket or something and that it'd go away. But I'd rather get my tonsils removed then deal with these things. Cause I have this feeling like somethings in the back of my throat and I tried eating sometihng to get it to go down. And I tried a crap load of other stuff and that didn't work so I amde myself puke and it STILL didn't come out.

Here's another method to try as i find it helpfull. I use a dental tool/ the pick and with the long handle it can easily reach the hard to get areas. shine a flash light at your tonsil with one hand and with the other hand by piercing it right at the tip of the white heads the stones will pop or oooze right out. afterwards gargle with seasalt after every brushing and it will not show up as often. i feel one ever so often like once or twice a month and when i know i have one i take care of it right away and not wait till the stones get any bigger and always brush the tonge. I notice most of you state the stones have a bad odor and taste...not sure but mine doesn't?? Anyhow; hope this helps :)

This morning I got, went to the bathroom and sneezed and out through my mouth cae this funny looking thing like a piece of cartilage or snot ball wrapped around something in the middle and it was smelly. I found today through my sister-in-law who had a tonsil stone before that it is nothing to panic about. I am assuming that's what it is but I do have a strange odor coming from my urine as well. Has anyone had that with these stones? Another nurse friend told me to go to my primary care physician and show it to him anyway. Any thoughts? I alrady use a C-Pap brathing machine with a humidifier, mytonsils do not hurt, mythroat is not sore, and my breath does not have an odor either like most people who have tonsil stones.

Iv had cavornous tonsils since I was like eleven twelve I cough up one if these yuck things every few months. When ever I yell I get sick well yelling like at concerts. But I don't hardly ever cough them up when sick they make me sic I think it really sucks I wish I could get my tonsils take out

I've had them for about 7 years now. First time it happened in the middle of math at school. I wasn't sure what it was or if it was something serious. I tried telling my mom but she didn't believe me or thought I was crazy. I deal with it by myself and no one else knows but this and other sites have helped a lot.

I am a suffer also. I started getting these gross things when I was about 19. My tonsils were huge and had so many little holes. I constantly pushed them out with q-tips. They are truly disgusting. I kept getting crazy bacterial infections in my tonsils and strep throat so the doctors decided to remove them. Today, I'm 29 and I have been suffering with strep throat for the past 3 weeks. It seems that not all of my left tonsil was removed and there is a huge caverness hole collecting whatever it can. It tastes nasty and is infected. I've been on antibiotics for two weeks and I'm not getting much better. I'm kind of mad that my tonsil wasn't all the way removed. I remember telling my mom, "Hey, some of my tonsil is still there!" and she just told me I was crazy...but here I am with this nasty problem again.
So, I'm back to square one. I'm totally for getting the rest of this bit of my left tonsil removed. I'm not dealing with this again.
I had been waking up with congested sinuses the few weeks before getting the strep throat and think there may be mold in my new apartment. So...those might be factors.

I've noticed from reading this forum and others, that not everyone has stones in the same locations. Some of us have them in the folds or crypts in the throat. Others, it seems have them in the tonsils themselves. Chloraseptic spray helps a LOT with the gag reflex, by the way.

I've had these things before (im 14 ) i called them doodoo balls because they stank and there balls in the back of my throat. usually I would repeatedly try to cough them out and then they would come out then it would come again( at a different time) and i would have to do it again it wasn't really a problem until a couple of days ago when i got one again this time it wont come out, i can cough all i want but it still wont come out I even tried digging it out but it wont work like its permanently stuck in there i came here to find out want i can do because its very annoying and i cant live with it any longer

The best way I have found is using a water syringe (the kind you get after your wisdom teeth come out) and shoot water into the cavities in your tonsils about once a week. It flushes everything right out, no pinching or squeezing or anything, and it gets every little piece out!

I get tonsil stones too, ughh...and I also get a strong, unpleasant smell that's like ammonia in my nostrils after exercising. My doctor doesn't know what causes this, and I was wondering if it might be related to the tonsil stones. Does anyone else share this problem?

I have had these for years. Just got my tonsils out yesterday to get rid of the prob. I am 31 and so far the surgery is totally worth it. If u want it done, don't let anyone who doesn't get these annoying things talk you out of it!

i no longer feel like a freak ! i really thought i was alone in suffering this condition,iv'e been suffering with it for about 10 years on n off but its never been constant or that bad, but over the last couple of months its been daily annoying smelly lumps.i find it extremly embarrasing as i can taste a terrible smell comin from my throat so i dread to think what other people think of my breath.i seem to be obsessed with feeling the back of my tonsils with my tongue for the lumps.iv'e been to the doctors several times to ask for help only to be told its perfectly normal,,that its all in my mind n most recently that i have oral thrush ! i find it quite annoying that doctors cannot diagnose this problem correctly.i didn hold out much hope when i decided to try n find some info online,,i cant believe i finally know wat is wrong with me.thanks to all users for being so open and sharing their stories.i am now going to print off my findings online and go explain to my doctor what my condition actually is !

I used to have those all the time. then i go strep throat and the doctor gave me antibiotics. They went away for a couple of months. Now im starting to get them again and i always have stinky breath. I LOVE SELENA GOMEZ, MILEY CYRUS AND DEMI LOVATO too, way off subject..

I also used to get these all the time and like many other people who left comments, I used to dig them out of the crevices in my tonsils using either a toothpick or my tweezers. They were disgusting and smelt repulsive. Sometimes I would get one or two out of each tonsil and sometimes they were as big as a grain. After digging them out and then gargling with mouthwash, my mouth tasted cleaner and I felt like I could get close to people without them smelling my horrid tonsil stones!!

Oh my, I myself have had these for years also when I first started complaining to the doctors about them, they didn't really know what they were, they told me several different things. Meanwhile I too am self conscious about my breath all the time It's terrible how I wake up sometimes and can smell and taste them because it's sitting right in my tonsil cavity, it's also an awkward feeling, you feel like you have to keep swallowing, I can't take it, it does drive you insane. Sometimes I used to brush my teeth so hard that my tongue and my gums burned when I attempted to rebrush or use mouthwash. I don't have insurance right now but I promise you, I'm looking into a tonsillectomy RIGHT NOW.

i could not believe that this was what was making my breath smelling so badly at times. my gf told me that I have to go to the doctor but the doctor thought that i had infection but I still get this tonsil stone even after taking some anti-fungal solution prescribed by my GP. I need to see a dentist perhaps.

I went to urgent care the Dr saw my throat and took a swap sample of my throat to check for strep throat, but came out negative. The doctor told me you have sinus infection, however, due to plug of my nose with white stuff it is coming out from my throat. She give me 10 pills of antibiotic for ten days with a spray for my nose (Fluticasone Propionate ) once a day and some pain pills. But none of the medication helped me out. I don't know how I got this I am very healthy and don't smoke don't drink. never had any kind of health issues before!! they only thing I can think about is I did a remodel for my house and there was a lot of dust in the house it my caused my nasal channels to get plugged !

i am laughing so hard i cant stop. These stuffs are direct from hell u know. Nasty nasty shity gutter smell. Phah! I am 20 & started havin this last year after i vomited so much so i causually blamed it on d vomit but that first one is d biggest ive ever had. I think dat first 1 bore a hole in my tonsil and pave d way 4 bacteria. From then on it re occours one in a blue moon but now its weekly. I said wada f***Only 2 days ago i spotted 3 tiny white stuffs and i said i hav had enough. I dug one out with my toothbrush and threw it right away! I bcame frantic and search d web like crazy. I finally pulled dem out with a tweezer. I am sure it has a cure. I am gonna do my best 2 eliminate them. Time 2 send diz satan designed candy lumps back 2 HELL

Ok I'm on this tonsil stone kick now.... I coughed one up about 4 months ago. Since, I have coughed more small ones up. I hate them. I'm determined to solve this problem... And I've leaned some stuff. Basically, keep your tongue clean, the white bacteria causes the tonsil stones to get worse. I found that my tonsils are very small, and the stones are not inside the actual tonsil, the stones (I saw) were in a pocket in front of the tonsil hidden behind a skin flap. Also, I feel and taste like there are more of them behind the tonsils in my throat. I feel the lumps, it sucks.
Best advice in a nutshell:
-Push out stones with Qtip gently, otherwise don't pick at them. Get an Oral Irrigator (not water pick) and gently flush the skin folds around tonsils, this is the only way to really clean away all that nasty bacteria from the crypts. Once you clean them out, they will come back unless you do maintenance.
-stop drinking sugar sodas, coffee. Drink water. Drink
tea instead of coffee.
-stop drinking milk, and other dairy.
