Tonsil stones can be very annoying. If you have found your way to this site
then you may already know what having tonsil stones is like. In either case,
it's safe to say you do not want to get them. I have not yet met anyone who was
excited about getting tonsil stones. The purpose of this article is to help
those of you who are still trying to figure out if that nasty white ball in your
throat is in fact a tonsil stone.
In this diagram, you'll notice the locations of the tongue, adenoids, tonsils
etc. These items have been labeled for reference. If the white ball you are
experiencing is located in the area of the tonsils, then it's most likely a
tonsil stone.
These photos give you an idea of what tonsil stones look like after being
removed.
I too have suffered from tonsil stones. It was some time before I
located a remedy that worked for me. You may need to try different things
before successfully ridding yourself of these annoying things. I went for
several years before discovering Dr. Katz' tonsil
stone remedy.
Be sure to see the other articles on this site
for information on removing tonsil stones and prevention of tonsil stones.

Cram commented on 05 Nov 2009, 18:50:18 Alrighty, I figured sonner or later I would figure out what these despicably disgusting vile little hell wads were.. They started a few months ago, just as an occasional little yellowish off white spheres coming up once in a while, at first they intrigued me because I thought that they were from my throat accumulating hazardous plaque and tar from cigarettes and that it was preventing some harm to my body by balling up in the back of my throat, which is partially true I suppose.. These tonsil balls are like plaque and shit mixed together, when I smashed it and took a whiff it smelled like shit, cigarettes and tooth decay, GROSS! So they were just small ones coming up once every couple weeks or so then today after about 6 coors lights and 3 cigarettes last night, I coughed up the biggest one Ive ever seen, shit, this thing was the size of a steel ball baring! I also find it weird how spherical they are, very round and sickening.. I imagine they are mostly from smoking.. Has anyone found a direct correlation to smoking cigs/weed a lot and having these often and then completely quitting and having them stop completely after some time? If quitting smoking is all it will take then I am totally there because these hell spawn demon seeds are fuckin awful!

Jenny commented on 08 Nov 2009, 15:13:13 So, I came across this site when I was trying to figure what this white spot on my tonsil was. and found out that it was a tonsil stone. After reading so many of your guys' experiences, and I'm not going to lie... I was laughing my ass off at everyone talking about the various ways in which they poke, pricked, picked, squished the stone out and even funnier was how it seems that everyone decided it would be a great idea to smell the damn thing..
well, after much probing with my finger (which didn't give me much leverage) and probing with a qtip (which didn't have enough reach) and also harassment from my boyfriend who kept telling me that I would feel much better if I just "got that sucker out" I finally tried again today, except I taped TWO qtips together this time.. and low and behold, what do you know? that was enough for me to gently push the stone out.. it fell onto my tongue and I picked it up with a q-tip.
I swallowed a few times and was relieved that I couldn't feel that small annoying lump in my throat anymore. I shouted for my boyfriend to come look at it with me.
We looked, and were grossed out and tried to not smell it. then just flushed it down the toilet.
The tonsil stone was pretty fucking gross looking.. and it looked a lot bigger on the qtip than when it was on my tonsil.
this was gross. but at least I know how to deal with it if i ever get another one.
thanks for sharing all your super gross, disgusting stories that made me laugh out loud.
the end

lauren commented on 11 Nov 2009, 20:29:15 i have tonsil stones i have had them for years, maybe this will help someone.. this is gross but this is how i get rid of mine.. im 30 btw.. i know i have them because my breath starts getting bad.. anyway i take a flashlight with one hand and a qtip in the other i kind of slightly press on my tonsil like a pimple and they come out.. its gross but thats what work, just be careful not to press to hard or your tonsils will bleed.. good luck
Mike O. commented on 14 Nov 2009, 06:55:03 They suck so bad!! I've had it for 4 days now. During the day it doesn't bother me, it's the 2 hours of sleep i'm average every night that sucks. Tonight I didn't sleep and really can't figure out how to get it out... Not cool, spent 3 hours trying and about 4 reading and even watching videos on youtube. :(

guest commented on 25 Nov 2009, 10:05:59 I am a teen and have had these "stones" ever since I was a young child. My aunts and mother have had these since they were children as well. The funny thing is when one of my aunts went to the doctor for a check up they realized her tonsils were missing and she'd never had them removed before. A few days ago I realized my right tonsil was missing and still is. xD In my opinion these "stones" are part of a natural degrading of the tonsils because every time I lose one I notice that I have a permanent hole in the tonsil where it had formed. I don't think it's anything to worry about. I will probably continue to get these until my tonsils are done degrading and so will the rest of my family.
David commented on 27 Nov 2009, 17:54:01 I have these stones and I'm laughing my ass off with all the stories.... I never let it get to a point to where my breathe stinks like pure $hit by checking them everyday. My secret it opening my mouth in front of the mirror and making myself gag so my tonsils can open up and the stones can peek out. Then I take them out with one of those plastic combs with a pointy end. Works perfect for me... Hang in there all u crazy folks lmao

guest commented on 21 Dec 2009, 10:24:49 they are caused by infection your body is trying to fight off and your tonsils may swell also, and the infection and antibodies are what causes the smell. its just another one of your body's defenses to try and keep you from getting sick.
guest commented on 22 Dec 2009, 08:59:27 THANK YOU!! I am so glad I found this site. I too thought I was the only "weird" one dealing with these things. I feel much better now. I do Q-Tips dipped in Listerine - that works. Hope we all get rid of them soon without having to resort to surgery.
Guest commented on 02 Jan 2010, 20:31:12 I thought i was the only one with this problem but after looking at this website, it was a big relief to see other people have this problem as well. I have a very long tongue and i usually pick them out with my tongue. Gross, I know. But i have to get them out somehow. I've had this problem since i was a child but didn't tell anyone about it b/c i was to embarrassed. I decided to look it up b/c my girlfriend told me my breath smelled and i knew something was wrong.
Tiffany commented on 03 Jan 2010, 22:33:22 Dear all fellow tonsil stoners,
I have had tonsil rocks for year and was informed by my E.N.T. they are nothing to be alarmed by. I get them frequently, but rather enjoy eliminating them myself. I will use anything that will fit in the back of my throat be it my fingernail file, a toothpick, a paperclip, a pen, or an earring post. I have used them all without repercussion. I am, needless to say, a picker by nature. The smell is something one can never get used to and I would never in an million years swallow it by choice. THAT is disgusting. Good luck, everyone and don't let it ruin your life!!
Tylerfoundu@yahoo.com commented on 06 Jan 2010, 00:34:40 Oh thank god I'm not the only one with these awful smelling things.. I'm thinking about getting my tonsils removed would that solve the problem???? Email is tylerfoundu@yahoo.com.
guest commented on 06 Jan 2010, 21:13:07 I am amazed by all these people with the same stories! Mine is the exact same thing as everyone elses. I had no idea what these were, had them for about two years, would take my plastic dental pic, with wide end, lift the flap on my tonsils and there they were!(Hiding) (I always felt like my breath was stinkiy) Did a lot of research last night and was in awe how common these were. I was looking for a home remedy and this lady had a severe case of stones. She mixed 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar with 2 cups of water and boiled it. Put it in a cup with lid. Gargle for a minute morning and night and then brush with baking soda.( Use til gone, make more) I can tell a difference already after two gargles! Hope this works for someone, can't imagine all these people out there with chronic bad breath that has this problem and doesn't even know! We need to spead the word, thanks to all!(Age 39)
guest commented on 17 Jan 2010, 21:54:03 my three siblings and i have all suffered from the dreaded, "cough, squeeze, sniff." saving really huge ones to freak each other out, terrorizing each other with a freshly squeezed one. priceless childhood memories. i have had these as long as i can remember. one of my sisters was a prober and would pick at them for hours. it is refreshing to know that tonsil stones exist outside of our crazy family. as far as smelling them, there is a sick pleasure that results from taking a whiff. it just wouldnt be right to leave all that pent up oder intact in its yellow plaquey package. i highly encourage hand washing with lots of soap and water afterwards.
guest commented on 19 Jan 2010, 15:35:05 I HAVE AN INTERESTING OBSERVATION THAT HELPED ME CURE MY PROBLEM FOR GOOD (STONE FREE FOR MONTHS NOW) AND IT DIDN'T COST A CENT !!!!
I had been suffering from the these stinky balls for the last 3 years and I would cough up a couple of tine balls every few weeks. I accidently discovered them hiding behind the tonsils a few months back and that is when I realised what I had.
I tried dislodging the white stuff I saw in my mouth and after a bit of a struggle and gagging I could get the balls out. I thought that was the end of it. To my surprise it grew back in a couple of weeks and did the same procedure again. This went on for 2-3 months. Luckily by that time my gag reflex was well under control and I could explore the area behind the tonsils without causing much agony.
I just thoroughly cleaned my hands with soap and warm water and explored the cavity behind the tonsils. To my surprise I could sense a massive load of tonsil stones hidden there. It was similar to an iceberg. What we see on the surface is just 1/8 th of the whole thing. Same is true for these tiny stones. The visible part was probably less then 5%. I could scoop out a massive ball which had more than 50 such tiny balls glued together. The stuff that was seen from the outside was just the new depostion on this massive underlying structure and this one smelt ten times bad than the ones that I spit out occassionally.
Also, this whole massive ball was covered in the most slimy film which helped it to stick to the cavity without falling out.
After that swoop I have regularly checked for any re-occurance and also my wife cannot detect any of the old gutter like stench anymore.
All I do now is gargle with very warm water for a couple of minutes to remove any slimy spit / fluid from behind the tonsils and just clean that area by simply using my index finger.
NO MORE RE-OCCURANCE AND AT NO COST AND NO MORE STINKY SMELL.
Give it a go and see the difference it can cause in your life. I hope this helps you all like it helped me and changed my life. I have my confidence back and can talk to someone at close quarters and my wife has not complained for ages !!!!!
tya commented on 20 Jan 2010, 20:52:24 i until today had no clue what they were, but now i do, and i am 21 years old and have been getting them since i was in my early teens, i dont get them as much as i did when they first began which is a blessing, im just glad they arent highly dangerous
guest commented on 27 Jan 2010, 11:36:23 I agree w/everyone here so I'll try to say something different. I first noticed them about 8 years ago. I've noticed that I get them more often now. I've used a tea straw cut at an angle to pick it out. Today I used a tweezer. It doesn't take much to irritate that area or to start bleeding, so I try to be careful. Some people have gotten strep throat just once in 5yrs or much longer. I get it at least 4 times a year. I wondered if I was introducing this "bacterial stone" to the underlying tissue, causing the strep, every time I caused a break in the mucous membrane. I've also noticed that the hole has gotten bigger and deeper. I'm going to try more blunt objects for now on. Fingernails work (not for me anymore since I bite mine...possibly another reason why I get strep.Although I've bitten my nails since first grade and I'm now 37 and strep was not a chronic problem for me until the past few years). I'll try the rounded end of a hair pin.Maybe I'll try the seed extract garlge mix mentioned above. OH, I also am very lazy about flossing. To my embarrassment I have developed really bad breath so I will start taking better care of my mouth. Thanks all for your input.

guest commented on 22 Feb 2010, 13:23:27 I am so glad I found this site. The first time I ever coughed one up I was in my teens. I wont even say what I thought it was from. I never asked anyone because I was too embarassed. I am now in my 30's and still have them from time to time. I dig them out with my fingernails most of the time.I smelled them when they came out. It makes me wonder if my breath smells that bad while they are in there? No one has ever told me if it does. Makes me curious though.
guest commented on 23 Feb 2010, 09:06:50 I don't know if i have this, but i get these things were i spi t up blood and cough really badly to the point were i feel like i have to puke, and if i stick my finger around my tonsil something white and gooey comes out of it. Does anyone else have this problem?. and i keep spitting up constantly and i can't stop.
If anyone has anything like this or knows what it is pleas eemail me at itscassandraaa@gmail.com. Thank you for your help.

guest commented on 18 Mar 2010, 06:32:59 OMG.... I HAVE THE EXACT SAME THING... they are nasty and stinky. I have had a fight with Tonsilitis for years. I would get it almost every spring and late fall, untill 2003, I had come down with it in late fall, and had gone to the ER with a fever of 102.9. The Dr. gave me 2 shots, 1 was a sterioid, and the other an atibiotic. I haven't had tonsilitis since then. But, about 4 yrs ago i started getting these whtie, stinky balls in my throat. Now I know what they are.. :) I'm gonna see if I can get my tonsils removed. I'm so glad I did this search. :)
5ra27 commented on 18 Mar 2010, 10:09:58 I am 27 and I have had them (tonsil stones) for many years, I don't get them often though. Call me strange but I find them fascinating. Its like getting to pop that once in while HUGE zit and it cast out on the mirror. I use my sanitized pointer finger to get pieces out. I get a piece out and another surfaces. Until they are all out. You can tell when your tonsil is empty of them, you can swallow a lot better. Yes the smell is awful, but if you brush your teeth and floss and gargle mouth wash as mush as I do, it won't leave your breath kickin. I am considering getting my tonsils removed. Its just less bacteria in us all, doing so.=o)
guest commented on 31 Mar 2010, 23:14:32 I have this problem. Thought I was alone then actually heard Dr. OZ explain it.
My problem is much worse. When these occur I get BAD skin infections around my chin and sides of mouth. I began to notice this pattern because after they are removed the skin heals up quickly. I concluded the trapped bacteria is being pushed out through the nearby skin.
I also noticed In me it is caused by eating raw nuts that get trapped in the crypts and it is always on my left tonsil which is larger than the other.
Since raw nuts are a part of my diet I began presoaking them and then making them into a patae.
I am now thinking about getting my tonsils out.
guest commented on 04 Apr 2010, 21:02:50 I might have mine taken out but I don't know if it is ready.
guest commented on 08 Apr 2010, 20:59:48 I've had tonsil stones for 30 years. Finally found a remedy last week that WORKED! Hallelujah! I took a medicine dropper (basically a syringe where you pull back to get the liquid in) and filled it with water. Then I shot it directly into my crypt. Tons of small tonsil stones came out. I was SO excited to see them all come out, as my crypt is so huge that I can't possibly get to them to dig w/ my other tool. The funny thing is, a few days later I tried it on my other side (which I never knew had any stones) and a ton of stones came out! One was large and nasty looking. They have probably been in there for years!!!! Try a syringe. Just hold it very close to the crypts and push the water through fast. It truly works!!! Now I do it every 3 days or so.
guest commented on 12 Apr 2010, 05:20:01 lol lucky me i don't have it....just brush and gargle twice a day...not that hard gee
guest commented on 14 Apr 2010, 20:44:43 I really don't know if have tonsil stones but my breath smell 24 hours a day, my breath smell started 2007. My breath smell good until I wake up next day and smell never stop.
james commented on 21 Apr 2010, 05:21:05 I'm so happy to have found out what these are, after 6 years of feeling like peanuts in my throat I pulled a bunch out tonight! Off to convince the doctor to get the rest out for me tomorrow!!!
guest commented on 22 Apr 2010, 01:08:56 The key to giving these guys for me was simple, give up drinking milk from the bottle and in cereals and tea or coffee, and to give up caffine all together. I got tonsilitus a couple of times and began to get the stones in both sides, i got sick of having to remove them (using a water pik is the best way of doing this if you cannot give up caffine and milk). But it has now been a good long time since i have gotten them and I am very glad of that fact. For me removing caffine and milk worked, before getting your tonsils out i would try this.l
guest commented on 28 Apr 2010, 03:19:29 simple answer which worked for me, give up drinking milk and caffine, not had one now for 3 months, i drink herbal tea and swapped my coco pops for porridge haha. It is worth it to not have a bad tasting mouth.
I have suffered from these nasty critters [tonsil stones] for years. I just accepted that I would always have them. However, since using the tonsil stone remedy I learned about on tonsilstones.net, I have not experienced even one tonsil stone. - Mike, Missouri USA
