Marlee commented on 10 Jan 2008, 13:05:24 I am only 16 and have been getting them for as long as I can remember. I find them to be disgusting. Do tonsil stones make your breath stink? Cause I always find that even after just brushing my teeth, my breath just FEELS gross. I hate the feeling of the stones just sitting in your throat. Everytime I swallow, I can feel them and it irks me beyond belief. The grossest part is when they come out of my mouth and I just realize that one is sitting on my tongue. They smell horrible, too. HELP. Would getting my tonsils removed really help?
MESCHELL commented on 07 Mar 2008, 22:32:14 I JUST FOUND THIS WEBSITE. TONSIL STONES ARE THE GROSSEST THING ANYBODY COULD HAVE LURKING IN THIER MOUTH...I KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT BECAUSE I SUFFERED FOR YEARS WITH THEM!! I FIRST NOTICED SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH MY BREATH WHEN I WAS AROUND 15. MY FRIENDS WOULD SOMETIMES ASK...WHAT'S THAT SMELL? I KNEW IT WAS ME! I TRIED EVERYTHING, EVEN SQUEEZING THEM OUT WITH A Q-TIP. A COUPLE OF DAYS LATER EVERYTHING WOULD START ALL OVER. I BATTLED FOR YEARS WITH BAD BREATH, SORE THROAT,SNORING, AND WORST OF ALL STREP THROAT!! FINALY, AT THE AGE OF 33 I WENT TO AN EAR, NOSE, THROAT DOCTOR AND PRACTCALLY BEGGED HIM TO LASER MY TONSILS OUT! HE TOLD ME THAT BEING A LITTLE OLDER IT WOULD HURT MORE. I TOLD HIM I COULD CARE LESS ABOUT THE PAIN. DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW TERRIBLE IT FEELS EMOTIONALLY TO HAVE POOP BREATH?? HE TOOK THEM OUT, AND MY BAD BREATH AND STREP THROAT PROBLEMS WENT BYE-BYE!! I'M 49 NOW, AND I EVEN SOMETIMES NOW I WILL DREAM THAT MY TONSILS ARE STILL IN MY THROAT AND MY BREATH STINKS!! WHEN I WAKE UP I THINK...I DON'T HAVE THEM ANYMORE! SEE JUST HOW SOMETHING LIKE THIS CAN AFFECT A PERSON'S WELL BEING AND SELF CONFIDENCE? MY ADVICE TO ANYONE WITH THESE STINKY STONES...SKIP THE TREATMENTS, AND GET PERMANENT RELIEF, I HAVE NEVER REGRETTED GETTING THEM REMOVED. ALSO, I HAD ABSOLUTELY NO PAIN AFTER THE SURGERY, AND I FLUSHED MY PAIN PILLS DOWN THE TOILET!!
guest commented on 19 Mar 2008, 14:51:53 Ok Meschell, TURN THE CAPS OFF (lol). and getting tonsils removed is not recommended. Tonsils are one of the primary defenses in your throat against orally contracted diseases. And even if you get them removed, there is chance that you will get them again. Halitosis (bad breath) is caused by your tongue and the bacteria. so either u started to bursh really well, or used a tongue scraper and mouth wash often.
fats commented on 03 Apr 2008, 09:23:12 i had them too but know i dont get them i brush my teeth a lot and take out all the food in my teeth always and know i dont get them hit me up if u need any info :)
Shannon commented on 17 Apr 2008, 16:48:46 I just noticed that I get tonsil stones. I have been trying to figure out what to do about it. Surgery seems drastic, but would I have to use products like the tonsil stone remedy for the rest of my life?
Joanne commented on 19 Apr 2008, 21:22:44 I've suffered with these things for about 7 years (I'm 32 now) and never knew what they were until today. They started right afer I was misdiagnosed with tonsilitis and my tonsils became permanently enlarged. My ENT Dr. didn't want to remove my tonsils but I do periodically suffer with sore throats. I don't have a problem with bad breath even though the stones themselves do smell bad. Usually I just use my finger to pop them out. The worse problem for me is the annoyance.
Priscilla commented on 24 Apr 2008, 21:45:50 I know I've only been having them for about a year at the most (I'm 21 right now) but the only way I can suggest getting them out is by coughing them up. They are awfully annoying, aren't they? :(
I haven't experienced bad breath, but I did realize that after awhile of not having anything come up, I did recently, and allergies have been bugging me. So putting 2 and 2 together equals... ^_^
Stupid allergies.
michelle commented on 29 Apr 2008, 16:50:06 My boyfriend wants to get his tonsils out because of tonsil stones but i don't think it's a good idea at his age. He hasn't tried any madication to get rid of them. If he were to find a medication that can cure them he wouldn't have to have them taken out. How can i convince him to try something else first before unnessassary surgury?
B commented on 30 Apr 2008, 06:20:59 My tonsils are so big they almost touch each other. I can never see the stones to even attempt to remove them. I've tried gargling, water pick, you name it. I've alawys got at least one back there. I'm at the point I want them removed.
guest commented on 02 May 2008, 15:29:20 I never knew what these things were until today. I had them all through high school, and I always woke up with a sore throat; I thought everyone did — I grew up in New York City and thought it was jut the bad air. I would get these things all the time (there was no internet then!), and had a rather odd and ingenious way of getting rid of them — not sanitary nor recommended — I would use an open hair pin. On a whim just before I left for college, my mother took me to see her ear, nose & throat doctor, who immediately put me in the hospital and removed my tonsils.. it took four hours because there were tumors growing on them, they were that infected. But I never missed a day of school all through high school go figure. I went seven years without ever getting another sore throat, it was heaven. Mine was a VERY painful experience, and I lost about 15 pounds in the two weeks following the surgery (starting out at 115 pounds, this was very noticeable) because I couldn't eat anything until the stitches healed. I now occasionally get this burning sore throat where my tonsils would be, and the next day or so cough up this strange little hard, flexible-plastic-looking "scab", and the sore throat is immediately gone.. I assume it's my body's way of dealing with some kind of allergy or post-nasal drip. It's very strange.. other than that, I'm 54 and insanely healthy. I would say if your tonsils aren't doing their job anymore and are pretty worn out from working so hard, then it's time to let them go, at any age.
guest commented on 20 May 2008, 07:45:55 I found my first stone about a year ago. The pocket is very visible on my right tonsil. Seems that when I floss or pick my teeth on the right side, that side STINKS!!! I have recently found another pocket just a lil lower from the other and I think I have another one down further. I woke up one night choking on the stone. I HATE THEM!!! I am a 41 yr old single mother, trying to date again with bad breathe. I do have an appointment with an ENT next week. I just want this problem gone! Waking up, choking on one of those nasty things is not a good way to wake up!
guestie commented on 18 Jun 2008, 18:14:40 I started getting these tonsil stones two or three months ago and I've already had enough. I constantly have a sore throat, bad breath, and the urge to rip out my tonsils myself. I realize that having surgery isn't the best thing to do, but at this point, I don't care. The stones don't come out easily and when I try to get them out, my tonsils usually bleed and/or I get nauseous and/or I get dizzy. I brush my teeth (including the back of my tongue) three times a day and I gargle with salt water, but they keep coming back.
The first chance I have to get a tonsillectomy, I'm taking it.
bb commented on 05 Sep 2008, 13:43:22 I've suffered from Bad Breath for the last 5 years or so, and only discovered tonsil stones just a few months ago. I would take them out (horrifying smell!) but I would still have BB. Just the other day, I was watching a video on YouTube of a guy showing how he gets his out. I tried it, and lo and behold! I found a whole new colony with many many stones! EWW!
And just the other day, I got the biggest one I have ever seen!! It was just a tiny thing peeking out so I figured I'll let it alone for a few more days for it to come out some more.
But everytime I put the q-tip on the tonsil, it would be really smelly, even more than usual. So I thought this must be a pretty bad one.
I was getting nauseous over the smell, but I kept poking around it. I was just ready to give up and I tried one last time for today, then...
OMG..I barely pushed on my tonsil and the hugest one just squirted out like a toothpaste out of a tube...I really freaked out!!
When I got it out of my mouth it was HUGE and of course, very stinky. I had to spray deodorizer. LOL.
I rubbed a q-tip, and the smell is noticeable gone, but still there. The q-tip is also a bit yellowish. I must have some more because when I rub the q-tip on the other side, there is no smell whatsoever.
I'm rinsing my mouth more with salt water, which seems to do a good job.
kari commented on 21 Sep 2008, 16:24:52 help- I have struggled with these for two years and have tried everything. I am ready to get my tonsils out. I have been to a few doctors and they just say garggle with salt water- well it does not work.
If anyone knows info of a doctor in los angeles who will take out tonsils due to discomfort and tonsil stones please write their contact info. I have insurance but dont care if i spend 5K i just want them gone!

guest commented on 21 Nov 2008, 21:47:46 OMG I just found out about mine, I had no idea what they were. My ENT told me to use a water pik and I did and it seemed like it was not working and then i was sitting on the couch and swalled them....omg yuck!! I can not take the nastyness so my ent said I can get my tonsils removed, but I have to wait till I am done breastfeeding. :(
amanda commented on 15 Jan 2009, 21:16:23 I noticed that I had one of those things about a month ago. I got so grossed out when I saw it that I didn't wanna see it until today. I tried removing it with a Q-tip, but only managed to get a small part of it out.
Forntunately, and for unknown reasons, mine actually don't cause any bad breath. I did smell the one that I took out, but other than that my breath really dosn't smell at all.
But I want those stones out anyway :( They look horrible when I open my mouth wide >.<
KL commented on 06 Mar 2009, 22:04:38 I had mono in '97 and my tonsils got so big. Now I get tonsil stones all the time. My right one only. My husband complains about my snoring and breath so I bet this is why.
They smell horrible. I am calling an ENT. So glad I found this site.

guest_12 commented on 19 Dec 2009, 09:28:02 I have them too.
I just hate it.
No matter what I do, I just can't get rid of the foul breath.
Can't talk to people without noticing their reaction.
I feel so helpless.

I have suffered from these nasty critters [tonsil stones] for years. I just accepted that I would always have them. However, since using the tonsil stone remedy I learned about on tonsilstones.net, I have not experienced even one tonsil stone. - Mike, Missouri USA
